CATFA 086: Rest In Peace, Bucky

Minute Eighty-Six: From The Cliffhanger to The Table

Joining us on the show, we have Lorraine Dahm.

In the eighty-sixth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger

It’s a big minute on today’s show as we have the death of Steve’s best friend, James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes. Well, at least it’s meant to feel that way, right? We talk a bit about the big moment and how it works as far as getting an audience to care. Does it work better if you already knew about the Winter Soldier from the comics? Or does it play fine either way?

We also wrestle with the fact that someone obviously finds Bucky fairly quickly. And why wasn’t it the Allies? Wouldn’t they have gone back to retrieve the body? It’s a bit strange.

We get to spend some time in the setup for Dr. Zola’s interrogation as well as he gets the lay of the land and Joe Johnston gives us a respite from the action.

It’s a great conversation about friendships, dead characters, and cyanide capsule retrieval. Tune in!
