Marvel One-Shot: Item 47
Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford are two criminals using a Chitauri weapon to rob banks and steal a fortune. Agent Sitwell’s on their tail, though, and finds them in a motel in Florida. We also meet Agent Blake, though we’re not sure if he’s Sitwell’s equal or superior. Regardless, he seems like the desk jockey while Sitwell works in the field.
How does this One-Shot play? We struggle with it in a number of ways. The tone never quite feels like it’s capturing the right essence of Marvel. It feels a bit too snarky. And what’s up with only 47 Chitauri items being found after the Battle of New York? That seems completely ridiculous. The decision to not focus on Coulson works in some ways while not in others, but then again, the whole internal struggle Marvel seemed to be having to figure out the separation between television and film properties seems to be a bit nonsensical.
We do have fun with this. It’s just that we wish they spent more time on the One-Shots to really deliver some content that felt worth the investment. Regardless, we have a great time digging into this one. Check this out – it’s only 12 minutes long and is on Disney+ – then tune in!
