IM2078: Swinging Sticks
Pepper’s packing up Tony’s old stuff, and turns out the model of the World’s Fair is there too. Elger Esser’s photo is hanging up. Who is Burt? Tony tries to apologize but those damn swinging sticks are distracting him.
Rob Kubasko has spent the last three decades as a designer for clients ranging from local campaigns to international public relations agencies. He’s also a nerd of the highest calibre and brings his love of comics and film to a variety shows. He served as co-host of the Marvel Movie Minute for seasons two and three, was a regular co-host of the Saturday Matinée and Ten Random Things with Kyle Olson.
Pepper’s packing up Tony’s old stuff, and turns out the model of the World’s Fair is there too. Elger Esser’s photo is hanging up. Who is Burt? Tony tries to apologize but those damn swinging sticks are distracting him.
After Dad’s message, Tony takes a drive. Alejandro Patiño makes an appearance as a vendor and Tony trades his gift watch from Obadiah Stane in the first movie for some strawberries. Pepper works in the office with Bambi Arbogast. They want the Mark II suit back. And yeah… there’s a newscaster in here who’s appearance is now a bit… awkward.
Is Howard’s message to Tony an early deepfake? We think so, made by Nick Fury to sell Tony on this whole thing. Damon Lindelof helped with it too, but it still just doesn’t work for us. See what you think.
Now that’s how you end a season. We’re here to talk about scrap metal bodies, the magic of magic microwaves and the “duties as needed” section of being a Caretaker. We’ve only got thirteen minutes to save the world, so let’s get started!
Young Tony makes an appearance. Shout out to Davin Ransom! Howard clearly doesn’t like filming for long periods of time as he makes a crass joke. RDJ does great in this scene with his simple looks. And he starts getting a sense of who his father was.
Tony digs around in his dad’s old trunk. Art department easter eggs pop up on the blueprint. Turns out Howard was a comic book fan. But Antarctica? Tony may be using a Compaq iPAQ? So where is Jarvis? And Dad leaves a great big telegraphed hint for Tony.
Justin spends almost this entire minute talking about the RDX missile he’s pitching to Major Allen and Rhodey. And Kyle breaks out yet another attempt at an accent. There’s talk about the Eiffel Tower, the Pietà, the Sphinx, and Ulysses. And Rhodey makes the big purchase.
Why are we talking about hippies and beatniks? Because otherwise, it’s straight-up gun porn in this minute. Clearly, Hammer knows his guns. And what’s amazing is that the screenwriter Justin Theroux was feeding Hammer’s speech to Sam Rockwell through an earbud. Crazy.
Rhodey and Major Allen pull apart the Mark II suit. It’s Justin Hammer’s birthday because now he’s got an Iron Man suit. And now he’s chatting with the military about firepower. There’s weapon talk as Hammer does his salesman pitch. He knows his stuff!
We’ve come to the end of the season! A hideous face from the past returns! A character goes out of character!! And one of the hosts says the word “Whoopsie-doodle”!!! Listen as we discuss the less-than-shocking season finale The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos!!!!
