Minute Fourteen: From I WANT YOU to Erskine Wants Steve
Joining us again, we have Kyle Olson and Rob Kubasko from seasons two and three.
In the fourteenth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger…
Steve sees the iconic I WANT YOU Army recruitment poster. We talk about the design of J.M. Flagg’s poster as well as some other characters created to inspire Americans – Columbia and Brother Jonathan. We talk about more posters once Steve goes inside – one recruiting for the Navy and another for the Marines.
We chat a bit about monorails. And stilts. And we try to figure out what that device would be called that reflects Steve’s face in the blank face of the soldier, but no luck.
Abraham Erskine turns up lurking in the hall, but why? Is there a reason he’s here? We talk about Stanley Tucci, who we just love.
It’s a minute where Steve’s being pulled ever closer to his destiny. Plus, monorail! Tune in!
