Retake: Mads & Susanne
“Let’s change the name of this series to Mads and/or Susanne so we can add any other film either of them have done, regardless of whether they’ve worked together on it or not.”
We’re done talking about the movies. Now let’s talk about the series.
We have come to the end of our Mads & Susanne series, exploring two films from director Susanne Bier that star Mads Mikkelsen. All told, we covered Open Hearts and After the Wedding. So what did we – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – think about not just the films but the series as a whole? And what do we think about these two artists?
Here’s a hint at what we talk about.
We’re certainly fans of both of these people. As for their collaborative output, After the Wedding stands out as the highlight. Open Hearts was a bit more divisive for us, and neither of us were fans of the Dogme 95 style. We also rank both of the films on Flickchart. It was a fun series and a great addition to our 11th season. Next up – 90s Comedy! The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins! A show about movies and how they connect.
When the movie ends, our conversation begins.
We love movies. We've been talking about them, one movie a week, since 2011. It's a lot of movies, that's true, but we're passionate about origins and performance, directors and actors, themes and genres, and so much more. So join the community and let's hear about your favorite movies, too.
