Ingrid Bergman hadn’t worked in Hollywood proper since the 40s, after having a bit of a falling out with the industry when she had an affair with director Roberto Rossellini, breaking up his marriage on location for the making of Stromboli. She’d been in many films, but mostly European ones or with Hollywood filmmakers not filming in California. In 1969, she would find herself not only back in Hollywood filming on the stages but also in a comedy, a rare occurrence for her. But she’s great as the straight character opposite Walter Matthau and Goldie Hawn! Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we dip back into our Ingrid Bergman series for our February 2022 member bonus episode with Gene Saks’ 1969 film Cactus Flower.
