Minute Eight: From A Secret Compartment to a Prediction
Joining us on the show today and all week, we have Kurtis Findlay from the Epic Marvel Podcast.
In the eighth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger…
Schmidt very easily figures out the secret button for the secret compartment on the secret wall in the secret tower. And there it is – the Tesseract. We saw this during the post-credits sequence in Thor and it definitely was glowing like this, not dull and lifeless like that first one Schmidt found. That’s how we know this is the real one.
That blue glow is fantastic.
Meanwhile, he and the Tower Keeper debate about who’s meant to see this. Doesn’t seem like Schmidt gives a damn. He’ll look anyway because, you know, he’s the bad guy. But is the sound we hear diagetic? Or is it just for us?
Weaving has a great look, by the way. We give shout outs to the costume designer and production designer.
We end on a prediction the Tower Keeper makes to Schmidt. We don’t quite hear Schmidt’s full response, but the prediction that Schmidt will burn certainly is menacing
There’s of course the nod to Raiders of the Lost Ark, which of course is a nod to Hitler’s actual digs in the desert. And all of that is perfect coming from director Joe Johnston, who worked on visual effects for Raiders.
It’s a fun minute of blue discoveries and threats. Tune in!
