Minute Sixteen: From Caught! to Germany
Joining us on this episode, we have Don Shanahan and Will Johnson from the Cinephile Hissy Fit Podcast!
In the sixteenth minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger…
Steve’s busted! His criminal past has caught up with him. We talk about the nature of an ego crime in this case and why it’s deemed okay. To a certain extent, there’s also FOMO. But it also plays a lot into the world of WWII propaganda… even if it’s not too overt. (Well, the posters on the walls have certainly been overt.)
But is this entire thing actually a part of Dr. Erskine’s test? And has Erskine been watching Steve for a while now? Either way, Dr. Erskine is such a nice guy and sets us all at ease.
We talk a bit about restrictions to getting into the army or navy, including pimples. Pimples? Of course, all of these lists really were dependent on where we were in the war and how badly they needed men.
And how about the Strategic Scientific Reserve? How did they come about? What about SHIELD?
We chat about Dr. Erskine’s address. Is that really there? Should Steve react more to his accent? And how will he react when he finds out Dr. Erskine is from Germany?
We kick off a great week of conversation with Don and Will in today’s episode. Tune in!
