Minute Eighty-Two: From Über Tank Destruction to Intercepted Hydra Radio Transmissions
Joining us today, we have Will Freeland from the Hype Is My Superpower podcast.
In the eighty-second minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger…
More montage! Plus, is that the Wilhelm Scream? We also chat about speed ramping and how they use it here. It doesn’t make a lot of sense as to how it’s used. Why is the bag toss emphasized with it? Seems like it’s meant to be the finale of a big action scene. There’s also some rough effects work as Cap jumps off the Über tank. Why is it in here? Just to show us how big it is?
We get a strange fourth wall break from Red Skull, which as it turns out is him screaming at Dr. Zola. Why break the fourth wall here? There’s a bit of extra dialogue between the two in the script to chat about too.
We also touch on the relationship between Skull and Zola. We try to figure out Zola’s job. Is it just designing weapons? Sure doesn’t seem that way. We also get to watch the only moment Manager Veldt has in the film, as it ends quickly with Schmidt’s Hydra Pistol.
We head to the Alps with the Howling Commandos. Wait, it’s February and no one’s wearing gloves? Hrm. We also get to chat a bit about the radio Morita and Jones are working on.
It’s a busy minute all over Europe. Tune in!
