Jaws 3-D • Member Bonus

Is a Great White Scarier in the Third Dimension?

The original concept was to make Jaws 3 a spoof of the franchise, but Universal didn’t care for that direction. So they went the regular ol’ sequel route and made another shark movie designed to scare its audience. And they added 3-D to enhance the scares! But does it work? Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our member bonus Jaws series with Joe Alves’ 1983 movie Jaws 3-D!

Here’s a hint at what we talk about.

Yeah, we know there are plenty of meme-worthy moments from the film, but it’s still trashy fun. Dennis Quaid later said he was on coke through the entire production. But he’s still fine enough. We love seeing the training Bess Armstrong did with the killer whale and dolphins to look like she actually works there. Okay, so we’re not getting the spoof version (which sounds like it would’ve been awesome, by the way) but it’s kinda terrible entertainment and we’re here for it.

We’re not sure what Gossett Jr. is doing, but the movie does what it set out to do – provide cheesy 3-D thrills. We have a great time talking about it, so check it out then tune in. The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins!

A show about movies and how they connect.

When the movie ends, our conversation begins. We love movies. We’ve been talking about them, one movie a week, since 2011. It’s a lot of movies, that’s true, but we’re passionate about origins and performance, directors and actors, themes and genres, and so much more. So join the community and let’s hear about your favorite movies, too.
