Retake: The Pitch Perfect Trilogy

We’re done talking about the movies. Now let’s talk about the series.

We have come to the end of our Pitch Perfect Trilogy series, exploring 3 films from directors Jason Moore, Elizabeth Banks, and Trish Sie, as well as a member bonus episode. All told, we covered Pitch Perfect, Pitch Perfect 2, and Pitch Perfect 3. So what did we – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – think about not just the films but the series as a whole?

Here’s a hint at what we talk about.

We really enjoy the first film – well, Pete loves it. So why the tonal shift? Is it because they realized their target audience wasn’t former collegiate a cappella vocalists but actually kids and teenage girls? We like that Banks and Sie came on to direct – it’s great having more women directors. But could Kay Cannon have used someone else other than Mike White to help with the writing? Or perhaps another writer all together?
We talk about the songs and the characters. We cover the gamut.
We finally rank all of the films on Flickchart.
It was a fun series and a great addition to our 12th season. Next up – The Before trilogy! The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins!

A show about movies and how they connect.

When the movie ends, our conversation begins. We love movies. We’ve been talking about them, one movie a week, since 2011. It’s a lot of movies, that’s true, but we’re passionate about origins and performance, directors and actors, themes and genres, and so much more. So join the community and let’s hear about your favorite movies, too.
