CATFA 047: Phillips Was Going to Rub Erskine Out Anyway

Minute Forty-Seven: From Sullen Steve to the President’s Re-Tasking of the SSR

Joining us on the show today and the rest of the week, it’s Jessica Plummer, author of Sword, Stone and Table as well as the host of Flights and Tights: A Superman Movie Podcast.

In the forty-seventh minute of Joe Johnston’s 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger

Steve and Peggy chat about Erskine, but the real question we have is how far along is Steve in getting used to this new body? Is he running into door frames? He and Peggy join the conversation that Col. Phillips is having with Senator Brandt while Howard works on the Hydra sub. Does it make sense for Hydra to really be this far advanced? And why wouldn’t Senator Brandt have heard of them before? It’s a bit of awkward exposition clearly designed just to fill the audience in but doesn’t completely make sense. And what’s Phillips planning with the SSR now that Erskine is out of the way? We have some debate about that.

What are Colonel Phillips’ intentions now that Dr. Erskine is dead? Tune in!
