2022-09-03 - Saturday Matinée Lobby Card

2022-09-03 • Saturday Matinée

A fine Saturday to you all! This week on the show Pete Wright leads Kyle Olson and Ray DeLancey on a journey of grown-ups liking kid things.

First things first, we’re talking about two Star Trek properties: Star Trek Lower Decks, and Star Trek Prodigy. Sure, both are cartoons. Both are just plum wacky. But both also offer fuel to the overall Star Trek universe and with reports that ships and characters from at least one of these shows is making way for the next season of Strange New Worlds, we’re eager to see what comes next.

Sandman is aging well on us. House of the Dragon is aging well for us so far. Does that bode well for this weekend’s launch of Rings of Power over on Amazon?

The new trailer for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey dropped this week leading to a whole lot of hand-wringing over how these beloved characters are being used now that they’ve fallen into the public domain.

THE LIST!

Technically, this week’s list is “Movies that are for kids that you secretly like as an adult”. But we reject the premise. As three people who just spent fifteen minutes talking about how great Star Trek cartoons are, we’re proudly in the pro-kids-movies camp. So we give you a selection of movies that we miss from the kids and family oeuvre.

Ray’s List

  1. Rookie of the Year
  2. Melody Time
  3. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Kyle’s List

  1. Monsters University
  2. The Croods
  3. Night at the Museum

Pete’s List

  1. Spy Kids
  2. The Lego Movie
  3. Storks

A fine Saturday Morning to you...
