Equilibrium • Member Bonus

"The disease is human emotion.”

This is a member bonus episode. If you’d like to listen, become a supporter!

Even though it’s his second feature film, Kurt Wimmer calls Equilibrium his directorial debut. He’d been working as a screenwriter for a number of years before he helmed it, so it’s no surprise that it feels like it’s made by someone who knows what he’s doing. But does it feel too much like parts from other machines? And does that bother us? Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – on our December member bonus episode as we talk about Wimmer’s 2002 film Equilibrium.

We chat about the world-building, where it’s effective and where we have problems with it. We look at gun-kata and its history, and debate its use. We look at the actors in their roles and discuss the difficulties of acting with no emotion. We touch on several of the crew members and what they bring to the table. And we talk about the reasons the movie don’t work and why it couldn’t find its audience.

We have a great time talking about the movie. Check it out then tune in! The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins!

A show about movies and how they connect.

When the movie ends, our conversation begins. We love movies. We’ve been talking about them, one movie a week, since 2011. It’s a lot of movies, that’s true, but we’re passionate about origins and performance, directors and actors, themes and genres, and so much more. So join the community and let’s hear about your favorite movies, too.
